The KL3312-1004 is an analog input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. It serves as a thermocouple interface that converts low-level sensor voltages into scaled temperature values, allowing temperature regulation and monitoring tasks to be integrated directly into automated control systems without external signal conditioners. This arrangement lets the controller read measured temperature values directly through the terminal bus. Its High Density Housing design keeps overall I/O rack width low when many channels are required.
This module clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail and needs no manual addressing because the bus coupler assigns stations automatically. Each channel outputs data in 2 × 16 bits, giving separate status and value words to the controller. Temperature changes are quantized in steps of 0.1 °C/digit, a resolution suited to precision heating or cooling loops. To offset junction offsets at the terminal block, it relies on internal cold junction compensation, eliminating the need for external reference sensors. The signal lines follow a 2-wire connection scheme that minimizes field wiring while maintaining accuracy for short thermocouple runs. With a housing that meets IP20 protection, the terminal is intended for installation inside enclosed control cabinets where accidental contact and dust exposure are limited.
The unit provides 2 inputs, allowing two thermocouples to be monitored independently in the same 12 mm slot footprint. For applications that measure sensor drift or tiny thermal gradients, the terminal also supports millivolt measurement, so small DC levels in the ±30 mV range can be digitized without extra hardware. Built-in open-circuit recognition flags broken or disconnected thermocouple leads, allowing the PLC to trigger alarms or fallback routines. Type K is the default sensor configuration, but channel parameters can be adjusted in software to accommodate other thermocouple types when needed.
