The KL3312-1001 is a temperature-input slice from Beckhoff’s KL Analog Input Modules series. Installed beside other terminals on a DIN rail, it digitizes thermocouple signals so a controller can log or regulate process heat. By combining sensor interface circuitry, signal conditioning, and field wiring in one housing, the module streamlines temperature feedback tasks in distributed I/O systems for furnaces, plastics machines, and environmental chambers.
It accepts thermocouple lines through a 2-wire connection scheme, so each channel needs only the sensor pair while automatic reference sensing corrects for junction offsets. A default conversion time of 250 ms sets how often raw millivolt values are sampled and linearized, matching the dynamics of most thermal processes. The factory sensor assignment is type K, giving direct compatibility with nickel-chromium/nickel-aluminum probes used across industry. Module power and cyclic process data move across the Beckhoff K-bus, eliminating separate supply cabling. When the terminal publishes data, it occupies a logical width of 2 × 16-bit, furnishing high-resolution signed values for each channel without extra mapping.
Additional operational limits and diagnostics round out the design. Measurement granularity is 0.1 °C/digit, supporting fine thermal tracking inside kilns or test stands. Housing compliance with protection class IP20 makes the slice suitable for enclosed control panels where finger and dust ingress protection is required. There are 2 isolated input channels, each supervised for open-circuit faults, and the default digital filter constant of 0x0000 leaves signals unaveraged until another coefficient is selected. Cold-junction compensation is handled internally, an optional 2 × 8-bit control/status field simplifies diagnostics, and a 35 mm mounting rail secures the module within the cabinet.
