Product Description:
The KL3312-0010 analog input module is part of the KL Analog Input Modules series from Beckhoff. Designed for thermocouple-based temperature acquisition, the unit converts sensor signals into digital words that a PLC can process. In decentralized I/O stations it captures precise thermal data and forwards it through the backplane so controllers can regulate heaters, chillers, or other energy-sensitive actuators. The terminal therefore serves as a compact link between field sensors and higher-level control logic in packaging, process, or HVAC machinery.
Each of the two input channels accepts a K-type thermocouple through 2-wire connection technology. The module performs internal cold-junction compensation, so external reference terminals are unnecessary and installation remains simple. Raw sensor voltages are resolved at 0.1 °C per digit, enabling fine process control. For every conversion cycle, the K-Bus transfers 2 × 16-bit input words, and optional 8-bit status information can be appended for diagnostics. Millivolt measurement capability lets the same hardware evaluate low-level voltage sources, while open-circuit recognition flags broken sensor leads. Because there are exactly two inputs, channel assignment inside the controller is predictable and programming effort stays minimal.
The housing snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail, matching the rest of a Beckhoff terminal row, and its IP20 protection class suits cabinet environments without additional sealing. Operating power is supplied via K-Bus, so no separate feed terminals are required. Process data follow the Two's Complement format, and the controller can request 2 × 8 bits of status to monitor sensor state in real time. This combination simplifies wiring, conserves rack space, and maintains consistent data handling across distributed installations.
