The KL3208 is one of Beckhoff’s well-received automation devices released under the KL product line. The KL product line is Beckhoff’s original product series featuring various types of terminals and I/O devices. The KL3208, in particular, is an analog input terminal that supports up to eight resistive sensors having a nominal value of 650 kilo ohms. Like standard Beckhoff analog input terminals, the KL3208 has eight signal LEDs and eight error LEDs, representing the status and errors for a particular channel. Each channel in the KL3208 has two nodes, implying a two-wire terminal connection. When the terminal has a broken wire or experiences a fault, the corresponding LED for the channel should light up.

The KL3208 has a resolution of 0.01 degrees Celsius and can operate over the temperature range of Ni1000 sensors. During operation, the KL3208 can perform linearization over the whole temperature range through its built-in microprocessor. Since the KL3208 is designed for purely resistive sensors, the contacts of the device are highly sensitive to electrostatic discharge. To maintain the pristine condition of this electrical module, careful precautions must be observed to prevent electrostatic discharge. In the context of electrical devices and modules, the electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive and small components in the device’s circuit board.

Like other terminals manufactured by Beckhoff, the KL3208 must be attached to a compatible mounting rail. The applicable size for this device is 35 mm. The installation process is straightforward and supports various orientations. To configure the KL3208’s software and access advanced features such as parameterization, the KS2000 software, developed by Beckhoff, must be used.
