Product Description:
The KL3208 is an analog input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. Installed beside a Bus Coupler on a DIN rail, it samples resistance temperature detectors and transfers the resulting digital values to the PLC process image. Its direct electrical interface for platinum sensors supports distributed temperature monitoring on packaging lines, food-processing heaters, and HVAC zones without separate signal conditioners. The modular housing allows the terminal to be installed with other Beckhoff input and output terminals in a compact control assembly.
Each channel is configured for a PT1000 reference element, and the terminal supports 8 inputs with a common ground. The input stage measures sensor resistances up to 650 kΩ, accommodating long lead lengths and compatible high-resistance probes without causing overrange faults. Conversion accuracy is maintained from -20 °C to +60 °C, with a maximum measuring deviation of ±0.25 °C. Installation uses a clip for a 35 mm DIN rail, and 16 push-in terminal points accept two-wire connections for the resistance sensors. In the controller, the input process image occupies eight status bytes and eight data words. The complementary output process image provides eight control bytes and eight data words for supported control functions.
The enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP20, so the terminal must be installed inside a suitable control cabinet. The measuring circuitry recognizes compatible platinum or nickel elements across a temperature span of -50 °C to +150 °C. Its resolution is 0.01 °C per digit, allowing the controller to detect small temperature changes during operation. Three internal resistance ranges of 6 kΩ, 65 kΩ, and 655 kΩ are selected automatically to keep the converter within an appropriate measuring range. The terminal can be stored at temperatures from -40 °C to +85 °C when it is not operating. These storage limits accommodate unconditioned warehouse environments while the cabinet requirement protects the terminal during installed operation.
