Product Description:
The KL3142 is an analog input module manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. It interfaces field transducers with a controller by digitizing low-level analog signals and transferring the resulting data to the system bus. Used in distributed I/O stations, the module gathers process variables such as pressure, temperature, or flow and presents them to higher-level PLCs for monitoring and closed-loop control in industrial automation.
This module provides 4 independent input channels, so one terminal can monitor several sensors without extra wiring. Each channel uses a 12-bit resolution, providing 4,096 discrete steps for detailed measurements and diagnostic trending. Field devices are connected through a 2-wire scheme that combines the signal and supply return on the same pair, minimizing the terminal count in compact enclosures. Mechanical depth is limited to 70 mm, which helps maintain clearance behind dense rows of terminals. The enclosure carries an IP20 protection rating, which protects against contact with hazardous internal parts while remaining suitable for installation in an enclosed control cabinet. The housing is 100 mm tall, and its variable installation position allows horizontal or vertical mounting without derating. Open-circuit detection is available on every channel, enabling the controller to identify wiring breaks before they disrupt monitored processes.
Cabinet integration is simplified by a 35 mm DIN rail foot that snaps onto the common mounting rail of a Beckhoff terminal row. Digital data are transferred to the CPU through a process image occupying 4 x 16-bit words, so each channel appears as a signed word that can be read with a single instruction. The internal electronics receive their operating power through the K-bus, so the measurement circuit does not require a separate field supply. The housing is only 15 mm wide, allowing a high channel density when multiple KL3142 units are installed next to other analog or digital modules. Its narrow profile also leaves more rail space available for bus couplers, power terminals, and additional input or output modules within the same cabinet. The snap-on mounting arrangement supports orderly terminal rows without requiring separate brackets for each module.
