Product Description:
The KL3132/PL3 is an analog input slice produced by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. It occupies just 12 mm of rack width and accepts differential voltage signals so that field transducers can be connected directly to a PC-based controller. Inside a decentralized I/O station, the module converts a bipolar –10 V to +10 V field level into digital process data, letting automation software supervise motion, pressure, or temperature loops without extra signal conditioners. Because the measured range crosses zero, the module can represent both positive and negative process values without external signal inversion.
The module’s common-mode tolerance is 10 V max, protecting the A/D front end against small ground shifts between the sensor and bus node. A full channel conversion is completed in 140 ms, matching the cycle times of slow process loops. A digital filter provides mains rejection at 50 Hz, reducing line-frequency interference on low-level signals. Each input presents an internal impedance of >70 kΩ, so typical instrumentation sources are not heavily loaded. This helps preserve the output accuracy of transmitters and signal isolators that are sensitive to loading. Total gain and offset drift are limited to ±0.05 % of full scale, supporting calibrated measurements across the –10 V to +10 V span. Quantization is performed with a 16 bit converter, giving 65,536 discrete codes for consistent resolution throughout the range.
The slice provides 2 electrically isolated channels that supply separate process words to the controller, reducing software scaling efforts. That arrangement lets the control system read both channels independently for comparison, averaging, or separate loop control. It maintains specified accuracy from 0 to 55 °C, and the housing carries an IP20 rating, making it suitable for installation inside standard control cabinets. This input method improves noise immunity when wiring unshielded cables in grounded machinery. During inactive periods, the electronics withstand storage temperatures down to –25 °C and up to 85 °C without performance loss, while measured data are reported to the fieldbus in two registers that mirror the instantaneous voltage appearing on each channel.
