Product Description:
The KL3022 is an analog input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. Designed for modular I/O stations, the device scans field-level measurement signals and converts them into digital data that a PLC can process without external signal converters. It mounts beside digital, safety, and motion terminals on the same bus, allowing application-specific I/O racks to be assembled while keeping field wiring short. Within an automation cell, the terminal relays precise sensor values to the control program at deterministic update rates for monitoring and closed-loop control.
The module provides two input channels, each represented by one of its two 16-bit data words in the controller’s process image. It uses single-ended electrical connections, so both channels reference a common terminal and can accommodate sensors that share a ground. A 12-bit conversion depth provides 4,096 discrete levels for capturing changes in the measured signals. This resolution supports applications that require reliable trend data or analog values for control calculations. Operating power is supplied through the K-bus, eliminating the need for a dedicated supply connection while retaining communication and diagnostic access through the backplane.
The housing attaches to a 35 mm DIN rail, allowing the terminal to be inserted into or removed from a modular control assembly. Its dimensions are 15 × 100 × 70 mm, so it occupies little horizontal rail space and leaves room for additional I/O terminals in compact enclosures. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, which protects against finger contact and the entry of solid objects larger than 12.5 mm. Because this rating does not provide protection against water, the terminal should be installed inside a suitable control cabinet. Push-in spring contacts secure the field conductors, while coding keys maintain alignment with adjacent terminals and help prevent incorrect placement. The terminal design also supports stable electrical contact when the surrounding machine is exposed to normal operating vibration.
