The KL3021-0000 is an analog input terminal produced by Beckhoff within the KL Analog Input Modules series. Installed on Beckhoff I/O stations, it converts a process current into a digital value so a controller can monitor transmitters, valve positioners, or other field devices that use current loops. This lets analog process signals be handled alongside discrete I/O in the same terminal assembly. By housing the conversion circuitry in a 12 × 100 × 68 mm terminal, the module supports compact signal acquisition on a machine's DIN rail and helps reduce cabinet depth in distributed automation layouts. Because the terminal format is modular, other signal terminals can be placed beside it on the same rail without changing the overall station structure.
This module accepts a loop signal of 4–20 mA and digitizes it with 12-bit resolution. The conversion hardware has a typical K-bus current draw of 60 mA, so no separate field supply is required for the electronics. It clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail, and the housing has an IP20 rating that protects against accidental finger contact but is not sealed against dust. The input path uses a differential input circuit to reduce the effect of ground offsets, and the overall measurement error remains below ±0.3% of full scale. Digital data are forwarded on the fieldbus as a 1 × 16-bit value + 1 × 8-bit optional status byte, allowing the control program to read the measured value and optional status information during each cycle. Power for the conversion circuitry is supplied only through the K-bus, which keeps external wiring simple inside compact control enclosures. The terminal also tolerates surge events up to 35 V DC without damage, which supports stable operation when connected field wiring is exposed to brief electrical disturbances.
