Product Description:

The KL2798 is an advanced bus terminal module designed by Beckhoff for AC/DC systems. With its eight output terminals, this device functions mainly as a relay contact for DC/AC systems. Each terminal in this electrical module functions similar to a switch, which is realized through a set of high-performance MOSFET transistors. The key quality for the MOSFET transistors inside the KL2798’s terminals is its low switch-off resistance. Although the device itself does not employ protection mechanisms against short circuits, its peak pulse rating allows it to withstand relatively high currents until an external protection device triggers. Like other bus terminals by Beckhoff, the KL2798 supports both inductive and resistive loads.

Depending on the type of load connected to the KL2798, the rated voltage may vary. Particularly, for resistive and inductive loads, the switching rated voltage is 30 V. On the other hand, for purely resistive loads, the terminal can handle a maximum DC voltage rating of 48 V. Note that resistive loads only draw DC current, which allows them to have a relatively high voltage rating. In terms of performance, the KL2798 boasts a high switching speed. During switch-on conditions, the terminal has a typical speed of 1.8 ms. On the other hand, during switch-off conditions, the typical speed is 30 ms.

The KL2798 is one of Beckhoff’s bus terminals that use two-wire technology. It supports eight make contacts, corresponding to the eight output terminals. During operation, the terminal voltage must not exceed 80 V, which is considered the breakdown voltage for the switch. For electrical devices and circuits, the breakdown voltage is the limit voltage at which the device can go in the reverse direction, usually leading to irreversible damage.
