Beckhoff's KL2791-0011 is part of the KL terminal series and acts as a field terminal for switching AC motor loads from a central controller. The unit draws its logic supply from the K-bus and places the motor branch directly in the process image, so PLC code can switch the load on or off without separate contactors. This arrangement lets the controller handle the motor branch as part of the terminal stack rather than through a discrete switching device. Designed for a 35 mm rail (EN 60715), the terminal fits inside IP20 control cabinets and uses the same profile height as neighboring Beckhoff slices, which helps keep DIN-rail layouts compact in machine tools, packaging lines, and material-handling systems.
The power side accepts a mains potential of 230 V AC, and the triac output can deliver up to 0.9 A to the connected motor. Under continuous duty, this corresponds to a maximum apparent power of 200 VA, which sets the upper load range for the channel. The terminal contributes an output process image of 16-bit data + 8-bit control, giving the controller both status and command information during each bus cycle. Resolution on the monitoring path is specified at 1 %, allowing a quick check that the commanded switching state matches the mains state present at the load. This combination of switching and monitoring data helps the controller observe load behavior without adding a separate feedback terminal.
Electrical isolation is tested at 3750 V AC for one minute between mains and logic, while the dedicated K-bus-to-field barrier withstands 500 V continuously. Off-state leakage remains below <1 mA, which limits stray current through idle motor windings and helps prevent unintended load response. The terminal has no power contacts and does not use pluggable wiring, which helps keep connection resistance low at the housing interface. Its load type is limited to single-phase motors supplied from a sinusoidal line source, so it should be used only where that operating condition applies.
