Product Description:
The KL2622 is a relay output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Bus Terminal series. It serves as an output interface that switches field loads from within a compact Bus Terminal station. The unit connects PLC backplane logic to external circuits, allowing actuators, lamps, or small motors to be energized without separate relays. In industrial automation systems, the terminal conserves cabinet space by integrating two electromechanical channels, signal conditioning, and system communication into one slender I/O slice. Its compact format allows it to be installed beside other Bus Terminals in a distributed control assembly.
Each channel is galvanically separated from the system bus, and the dielectric strength is rated at 500 V between the logic and field sides to protect upstream electronics from transients. When switching single-phase mains power, the contacts permit up to 230 V AC. Low-voltage control circuits operating at up to 30 V DC can also be driven by the same device, providing flexibility for different field loads. The relay conducts a continuous load of 5 A, allowing small inductive or incandescent loads to operate within the terminal’s thermal limits. Protection against finger contact and solid objects is provided by the housing’s IP20 classification, so the terminal must be installed inside a suitable control enclosure.
Each channel uses one normally open contact per output, keeping its connected circuit open until the PLC sends an energizing command. A total of two outputs permits independent control of two loads without requiring another terminal, increasing channel density on the bus rail. Mechanical installation is straightforward because the module snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail. A locking mechanism secures it beside adjacent terminals and supports an orderly control cabinet layout. The switching element is an electromechanical relay, which avoids the leakage current associated with semiconductor outputs. This contact-based design also provides galvanic isolation between the controller electronics and external power circuits while accommodating both AC and DC loads within the stated limits.
