Product Description:
The KL2602 terminal is produced by Beckhoff for the Bus Terminal series. The component occupies one slot on a standard Bus Terminal strip and converts control commands from the fieldbus coupler into two isolated relay circuits. By switching line-level voltages through mechanical contacts, the terminal lets a PLC actuate solenoids, contactors, or indicator lamps directly from the I/O rack, eliminating the need for separate interposing relays. Its purpose in industrial automation is to connect low-level logic signals to mains-rated loads while maintaining galvanic isolation between the control and load sides.
The controller’s process image allocates 2 output bits, one per channel, so each bit addresses its corresponding relay. Field wiring follows a 2-wire connection scheme, which simplifies conductor routing at the terminal points. Each relay is separated from the backplane by an isolation barrier that withstands 500 V, helping prevent ground loops between high-energy loads and sensitive bus electronics. During operation, the contact set can conduct up to 5 A, covering many pilot valves, contactors, indicator lamps, and other moderate electrical loads. The permissible line level reaches 230 V AC or 30 V DC, allowing the same terminal to switch standard AC mains or low-voltage direct-current circuits within its contact ratings.
The terminal uses a relay switching element, so the contacts close when the controller sets the associated output bit. This normally open contact action is suitable for circuits that must remain open during power-up or when no output command is present. Live parts sit inside an IP20 enclosure, which protects against accidental finger contact when the terminal is installed in a ventilated control cabinet. The internal mechanical components are rated for 20,000,000 cycles, providing a long operating life when the electrical load, switching rate, and installation conditions remain within the permitted limits. The module provides two galvanically isolated outputs, and each channel has a status LED that gives a clear visual indication of its commanded switching state.
