Product Description:
The KL2521-0010 is an incremental encoder interface module manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the KL Analog Input Modules series. The terminal accepts differential A and B track signals and forwards time-stamped values to the controller. Within industrial automation systems it offers a compact means of capturing high-resolution shaft position data while simultaneously providing two independently switched auxiliary outputs.
On the encoder side the module communicates through the differential RS422 interface, so noise-immune signal pairs can be delivered over several meters. An internal load supply of 5 VDC internal powers the connected sensor, and the draw is limited to 50 mA, preventing overload on upstream power rails. One channel with two differential outputs transmits the A and B pulses; the firmware inserts a 0.6 ms dead time and enforces a duty factor of 50 % to equalize high and low intervals. Motion profiles can be linearized by a ramp calculation of 2 ms per step. Field data are quantized with a 16-bit bus resolution and transferred to the backplane every 1 ms output cycle, giving the controller 1 kHz position refresh capability without additional wiring overhead.
The auxiliary section contains two outputs labeled +T and +Z that are switched by an internal MOSFET stage. Each output can switch up to 230 VAC/DC and source as much as 100 mA for brake release signals or marker lamps. A galvanic barrier rated at 500 V isolates the field circuits from the logic side, so encoder commons do not feed back into the bus. The terminal carries the IP20 protection class, matching its intended installation inside a control cabinet. With these electrical limits the KL2521-0010 delivers coordinated position feedback and small-signal actuation without exceeding typical cabinet power budgets.
