Product Description:
The KL2502-3020 is a compact I/O terminal produced by Beckhoff within the KL Analog Input Modules series. Despite that series name, this terminal provides pulse-width-modulated output channels rather than analog measurement inputs. In an automation cell, it converts digital setpoints from the controller into proportionally modulated low-voltage power for small valves, lamps, or test fixtures. Placing this function in the terminal stack reduces extra interface hardware and keeps control response predictable during repetitive switching tasks. This arrangement allows the controller to adjust output intensity or actuation level from the terminal block without requiring a separate external power stage for each controlled point.
The terminal mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail to align with adjacent stations and share the bus supply. Each channel can source up to 0.1 A at 5 V DC, which suits low-power ohmic loads within that output range. Pulse generation is handled by an internal timer that switches at 30 kHz, helping support fine duty-cycle control while reducing audible noise. Command data are scaled by a 10-bit converter, giving 1,024 discrete output steps across the duty range. Integrated overload and short-circuit monitoring disable the affected channel if limits are exceeded, which helps protect the terminal group from a fault on one connected load.
The housing measures 12 x 100 x 68 mm, so the module occupies little cabinet space when several terminals are installed side by side. A single node can address 2 separate actuators, while the backplane power contacts are rated at 10 A for stable pass-through to neighboring terminals with higher current demand. On the bus side, the module uses 48 bits of process image data for setpoint, status, and diagnostic information exchanged with the controller. Its slim width helps dense terminal assemblies stay organized on standard mounting rails inside compact control cabinets. The module also has IP20 finger protection, is intended for ohmic loads, and uses a 16-bit setpoint interface.
