Product Description:
The KL2488 is a multi-channel output terminal produced by Beckhoff for the KL Bus Terminal series. This modular fieldbus component connects directly to a Bus Coupler, allowing discrete load control from a PLC through the shared terminal backbone. By switching the negative side of the circuit, the terminal actuates solenoids, indicator lamps, or other low-voltage devices in small machine panels and building automation racks. In industrial automation, the module translates logic-level commands into load power switching without additional relays or external wiring blocks. Because the outputs are transistor-based, the terminal responds quickly to control signals and fits applications that cycle loads repeatedly during normal operation.
The terminal is powered from a nominal 24 V DC supply, and each channel can switch up to 0.5 A, enabling operation of medium-current inductive or lamp loads. The shared power contact handles 10 A, allowing all channels to draw from one feed. An IP20 rating confines use to cabinets and helps protect against accidental contact with live parts. Dimensions of 12 mm × 100 mm × 68 mm keep the unit slender, allowing high channel density while preserving convection gaps. Ground-switching transistors simplify wiring by referencing outputs to the local zero line, and the polycarbonate housing provides electrical insulation. This layout suits compact terminal rows where several loads share the same control voltage and return path.
Functionality is mapped into the controller with a process image width of 8 outputs, so each bit of the host PLC word toggles one channel without a software offset. That straightforward mapping keeps control logic easy to read in PLC programs and reduces the need for intermediate signal handling. Clip-on installation to a 35 mm DIN rail secures the module and keeps the internal power bus aligned across adjacent terminals. Single-conductor actuators can be connected directly through the 1-Wire cabling style, which combines signal and supply on one contact row and reduces terminal block count. Integrated reverse voltage protection prevents accidental polarity reversal from damaging the FET switches.
