Product Description:
The KL2408-0018 is an I/O terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for use in the KL bus coupler system. It occupies a single slice on the modular assembly and switches field-side loads from controller-side commands. In industrial automation, the terminal is used to control multiple 24-volt actuators from a centralized PLC while keeping wiring density low inside the control cabinet.
Each channel is designed for a nominal supply of 24 V DC and can deliver up to 0.5 A per channel, which is sufficient for solenoids, relays, or small lamps. The terminal has 8 outputs, so the process image presents one byte of data to the controller. It remains functional in ambient temperatures from -25 to +60 °C, and its housing carries an IP20 rating, so installation is limited to protected enclosures. Field wiring uses a 1-wire scheme that shares the power contact across every channel, which simplifies terminal block layouts. Internally, the module tolerates ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads, and its power contact draws about 60 mA in addition to the switched load current. Reverse-polarity protection helps prevent damage if the 24 V supply is connected incorrectly, and the switch-off energy for inductive devices is limited to less than 150 mJ per channel.
Channel protection is reinforced by a fuse structure that caps fault current at < 2 A, allowing upstream breakers to trip without destroying the terminal. The output topology uses positive switching, so the high side is interrupted while the common 0 V remains continuous. Communication with the bus coupler draws only typ. 18 mA from the K-bus, leaving capacity for additional terminals. Storage conditions from -40 to +85 °C support long transport and storage periods. The stated switch-off energy and the specified power-contact current support reliable operation across ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads during repeated on-off cycles.
