Product Description:

The KL2284 digital output terminal was developed by Beckhoff for precise control of automated systems. Through the use of H-bridge circuits, the terminal is equipped with four reversible outputs. Nominal voltages from 0 to 24 V AC/DC are supported by this terminal, making it perfect for bidirectional control of DC motors.

The KL2284 digital output terminal has four channels, each with its own 2 A output current capability, and it uses a 2-wire connection technique. In addition to handling peak currents of 5 A for 100 ms and less than 50 A for 10 ms, it provides a breakdown voltage of 80 V. A 500 V electrical isolation rating guarantees safe operation by separating the K-bus from the field potential. Turning it on normally takes 235 ms and may go up to 300 ms, but turning it off takes much less time, 30 ms on average and 50 ms maximum. The low on-resistance of around 0.03 Ω reduces both power loss and heating. To protect the linked motors, the terminal has an interlock that prevents the two-way switch from being actuated simultaneously.

The reliable operation and wear-free switching are guaranteed by the superior power semiconductor architecture of the KL2284 terminal. The output state may be seen by LEDs, and the K-bus is capable of handling 100 mA. A polycarbonate container measuring 12 mm x 100 mm x 68 mm makes up the terminal. It complies with relevant EMC requirements and offers protection with an IP20 certification. The termination may accommodate wires with a cross-section as small as 2.5 mm², whether they are ferrule, solid, or stranded. Because of its peak current capacity, it can withstand high inrush currents that occur when motors start up.

Frequently Asked Questions about KL2284:

Q: How does KL2284 achieve electrical isolation?

A: It provides 500 V isolation between the K-bus and the field potential. This protects the control system from voltage spikes.

Q: Why is the peak current rating important for KL2284?

A: Peak current of 5 A (100 ms) allows handling motor start-up currents without damage. It ensures reliable transient load management.

Q: Does KL2284 have protection against simultaneous switching?

A: Yes, it includes an interlock that prevents both directions from switching simultaneously, protecting motors from damage.

Q: How fast can KL2284 switch outputs on and off?

A: Switching on speed is typically 235 ms, max 300 ms. Switching off speed is faster, typically 30 ms, max 50 ms.

Q: Why is the low on-resistance of KL2284 significant?

A: Low on-resistance (0.03 Ω) reduces power dissipation and heat generation, improving efficiency and component lifespan.
