The KL2032 is a digital output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Bus Terminal system. The component mounts on a DIN rail beside a Bus Coupler to expand a decentralized I/O station. It switches low-voltage field devices directly from the control supply, allowing compact machine controls to operate small actuators, solenoids, or status lamps without separate interface relays. Its narrow housing conserves mounting space and places the field connections close to the controlled equipment.
The terminal operates from a control potential of 24 V DC, which is commonly used for extra-low-voltage control circuits in industrial cabinets. Each channel can source up to 0.5 A per channel, representing the maximum continuous load current available from an individual switching stage. The device provides two output points that can control separate loads while occupying a single terminal position. Field wiring uses a two-wire connection, with the supply and switched conductor routed directly to the connected load without a separate sensing lead. The output stages support resistive, inductive, and lamp loads, including heaters, solenoids, and filament indicators. This load compatibility accommodates the current behavior associated with steady resistive demand, inductive demagnetization, and lamp inrush current.
Bus communication uses a process image with two output bits and two input bits. The output bits carry control commands from the automation system, while the input bits return channel status information that can be evaluated by the controller. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, so the terminal must be installed in an enclosed control panel that protects it from moisture and small foreign objects. Internal reverse-voltage protection blocks damaging current if the control supply is connected with incorrect polarity. A short-circuit-proof output stage protects the switching electronics when faulty downstream wiring produces excessive current. When a channel fault occurs, the affected stage switches off to limit thermal stress while the remaining control system can continue processing diagnostic information.
