Product Description:
The KL2022 is a two-channel output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff and used in the KL terminal family. Installed in a modular I/O station, it switches field loads directly from the system bus, allowing a PLC to actuate lamps, solenoids, and similar devices without separate relays. The terminal supports decentralized control by converting logic commands from the controller into switched output signals for individual machine functions. That arrangement is useful in cabinet-mounted automation nodes where output devices need to be controlled close to the machine instead of through separate switching hardware.
Each channel operates from a nominal supply of 24 V DC and can source up to 2.0 A per channel, so resistive, inductive, and lamp loads receive adequate current for normal operation. During switch-off, the internal circuitry limits energy dissipation to less than 1.7 J per channel, which helps reduce electrical stress at the output stage. Communication with the controller takes place over the K-bus and requires only 5 mA typical, which helps keep backplane loading low in stations with many terminals. The power contacts are rated for a continuous bus current of 10 A maximum, and the terminal itself draws an additional 20 mA plus the active load current.
Fault behavior is limited to a short-circuit current of less than 70 A, and the polycarbonate housing has an IP20 enclosure rating for finger protection in control cabinets. Field wiring uses a 4-wire connection method, so each switched leg is accompanied by separate supply and ground conductors. Because reverse polarity protection is not included, the supply orientation must be checked before power is applied. Bus power passes through the system connectors, and the module can be snapped onto the rail in any position within the I/O string.
