Product Description:
The KL2012 terminal is an industrial I/O module manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Bus Terminals series. The module functions as a two-channel digital output that converts the 24-volt logic supplied through a Bus Coupler into discrete switching signals for valves, relays, or indicator lamps at the machine level. It installs directly on a DIN rail beside neighboring terminals, which reduces panel wiring and supports deterministic output timing. The terminal can operate within control systems connected through compatible EtherCAT, PROFIBUS, or other supported Bus Couplers.
Each channel is energized from a control supply rated at 24 V DC, aligning the terminal with standard sensor and actuator power buses used in factory equipment. A maximum load of 0.5 A per channel can be switched, allowing compact solenoids or signal lamps to operate without interposing relays when their current demand remains within this limit. The module provides two independent outputs, enabling the PLC to operate two field devices through one compact terminal. During installation, the housing clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail and connects to adjacent terminals through the integrated bus contacts. Its enclosure has an IP20 rating, which protects against accidental finger contact but requires installation inside a closed control cabinet.
The spring-cage clamps use a two-wire connection for straightforward field-device wiring. The conductors can be inserted without requiring traditional screw terminals, reducing the number of components needed for installation and helping maintain secure contact under normal machine vibration. With exterior dimensions of 15 × 100 × 70 mm, the module has a compact footprint suitable for shallow control boxes and densely populated terminal assemblies. Its variable installation position allows the terminal to be mounted horizontally or vertically without derating under the stated operating conditions. In the controller’s address space, the unit contributes two output bits to the cyclic process image, with one bit assigned to each switching channel. Built-in reverse-voltage and short-circuit protection helps protect the output circuitry if field wiring is reversed or a connected line is temporarily shorted.
