Product Description:
The KL1819 input module is produced by Beckhoff for the KL Digital Input Terminals series. It captures binary field signals and forwards their states over the terminal’s K-bus, allowing a controller to respond to limit switches, optical sensors, push buttons, and similar field devices. This direct connection reduces the need for separate signal-marshalling hardware between the machine and the control cabinet. The module is suitable for monitoring discrete devices in conveyor systems, packaging lines, assembly equipment, and other automated machinery.
The module operates at a 24 VDC logic level, allowing it to connect to common industrial sensor power rails without additional level-shifting equipment. Its 16 inputs provide a compact method for collecting multiple binary signals within a single terminal position. Each channel draws 3 mA, which limits the electrical load placed on connected sensors and helps reduce heat generation in densely populated I/O racks. A built-in 0.2 ms input filter suppresses short disturbances and contact bounce while retaining fast response to legitimate state changes. Compliance with the EN 61131-2 Type 1/3 signal standard provides compatible input thresholds, hysteresis, and switch-off behavior for widely used industrial control devices. The input states occupy contiguous positions in the process image, and the bus coupler can map the channels at power-up without requiring separate module configuration.
The housing measures 15 mm × 100 mm × 70 mm, conserving DIN rail space when several terminals are installed together. Internal circuitry receives power through the K-bus and draws 20 mA, allowing the terminal load to be included in the bus coupler’s power calculation. Field wiring uses a 1-wire connection scheme with screw terminals for straightforward conductor attachment. The terminals accept solid, stranded, or ferrule-equipped conductors, providing flexibility when the module is integrated with existing control wiring. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, making it appropriate for installation inside a closed control cabinet that prevents exposure to water and excessive contamination. Its variable mounting orientation permits horizontal or vertical installation, while the narrow housing allows adjacent terminals to remain accessible for wiring and inspection.
