The KL1809/PL3 is an analog input terminal produced by Beckhoff within the KL Analog Input Modules series. It is intended to bring field-level voltage signals into a PC-based control system over the K-bus, allowing centralized data collection and monitoring inside an automation cabinet. By converting sensor voltages into standardized digital values, the terminal supplies controllers with real-time process information that can be acted on by PLC logic, motion sequences, or visualization layers.
This terminal accepts a field supply of 24 VDC, and each channel draws an operating current of 3 mA so power supplies can be sized accurately. The terminal provides a total of 16 inputs for high-density installations where cabinet space is limited. A built-in low-pass stage attenuates noise with a time constant of 3.0 ms, helping maintain stable values when wiring is exposed to electromagnetic interference. Communication with the adjacent bus coupler consumes 20 mA from the internal K-bus, a fixed load that must be included in segment current calculations. Signal wiring follows 1-wire connection technology, reducing terminal points to a single line plus common, and it is compatible with solid, stranded, or ferruled conductors.
The housing measures 15 mm in width, 70 mm in depth, and 100 mm in height, so multiple modules can be mounted side by side without exceeding standard DIN rail clearances. With a mass of 60 g, the terminal places very little mechanical load on light-gauge mounting rails. The enclosure is rated IP20, giving finger-safe protection in enclosed cabinets, and it meets EN 61131-2 Type 1/3 requirements for programmable controller I/O. A variable installation position allows horizontal or vertical mounting to match airflow patterns or wiring routes.
