The KL1809-0000 input terminal from Beckhoff belongs to the KL Bus Terminals series. As a compact fieldbus element, it interfaces up to sixteen discrete sensor signals with the system controller and maps them into the PLC process image. Within industrial automation lines, this module reduces panel space and wiring effort while supporting distributed I/O layouts.
Its wiring side provides 16 connection points, with one connection assigned to each input channel, and the terminals accept solid, stranded, or ferruled conductors. Cable insertion uses direct plug-in spring actuation, so conductors lock in place without screw tightening and can be released with a push tool. The field side is galvanically isolated from the internal logic by 500 V, which helps protect the bus coupler from plant transients and ground shifts. With an enclosure footprint of 15 × 100 × 70 mm, the module occupies only 15 mm of DIN rail width and helps conserve cabinet space. Its housing carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for installation inside a closed control enclosure. Sixteen binary states are transferred to the controller in a single 16-bit word, and all channels use the 0 V power contact as the signal return.
Signal acquisition follows 1-wire connection technology, so each input channel shares a common ground and needs only one field conductor. Input threshold levels conform to EN 61131-2 type 1/3, allowing compatibility with both sourcing and sinking sensors used in machinery. Current for the sensor supply passes through power contacts that are looped through, which creates a continuous supply rail when several terminals are mounted together. Channel states and module diagnostics are shown by an on-face LED, allowing quick visual status checks during operation and maintenance. Because the installation position is variable, the terminal can be mounted horizontally or vertically without derating.
