Product Description:
The KL1809 is a digital input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff and supplied as part of the KL terminal series. Designed for industrial automation, the terminal accepts 24 V sensor signals and forwards their logic states over the internal K-bus to a host controller, supporting decentralized signal acquisition in compact control panels. K-bus contacts on the rear edge plug directly into adjacent terminals. By combining a high channel density in a single housing, it supports compact machine layouts and reduces cabinet wiring time.
Sixteen discrete channels are available, and the bit width of 16 inputs allows one terminal to replace multiple single-channel blocks. Wiring is simplified by 1-Wire connection technology, so each sensor line needs only one conductor plus the shared 24 V supply. Each input sinks approximately 3 mA, a value selected to meet IEC Type 1 devices while keeping power loss low. A built-in filter of 3.0 ms suppresses contact bounce and short transients before the logic image is updated. The circuitry is rated for a nominal supply of 24 VDC, aligning with standard control voltages in machinery. Communication across the terminal stack draws just 20 mA from the K-bus, leaving ample budget for additional modules on the same coupler.
Mechanical and environmental parameters match typical cabinet conditions. The housing measures 15 × 100 × 70 mm, so width expansion is minimal when several terminals are ganged. Protection class IP20 indicates touch-safe live parts but requires enclosure mounting for dust or fluid exposure. Compliance with EN 61131-2 Type 1/3 confirms that the input thresholds, current draw, and debounce timing match programmable controller requirements. The terminal accepts solid, stranded, or ferrule-terminated conductors, and its orientation is variable, allowing horizontal or vertical installation without derating.
