The KL1808 is an input module manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL input terminal series. Mounted on a DIN rail bus terminal stack, it transfers field-level signals to the controller, allowing programmable logic controllers to monitor sensors, limit switches, and pushbuttons in automated machines. By translating as many as eight discrete channels into the system process image, the module streamlines signal acquisition and reduces wiring inside control cabinets used on conveyor lines, packaging stations, and HVAC systems. Its compact terminal format allows it to be installed alongside other bus terminals in a modular control node.
Each channel is referenced to a field supply of 24 VDC. When a sensor is energized, the circuit draws only 3 mA, minimizing the load on proximity devices. A built-in filter with a response time of 3.0 ms removes contact bounce before the data are presented to the CPU. The input circuitry complies with EN 61131-2, Type 1/3, supporting compatibility with standard industrial equipment. Backplane demand is only 15 mA on the K-bus, so the terminal has little effect on the power budget of a node. The module provides eight logical inputs that appear as an 8-bit process image. Two spring terminals per channel provide 16 connection points for direct field distribution without auxiliary jumpers.
Signal leads use two-wire technology and are secured by direct plug-in spring actuators that accept solid, stranded, or ferruled conductors without special tools. The housing measures 15 × 100 × 70 mm, while its aligned width beside neighboring terminals is only 12 mm. This narrow profile enables dense layouts on short DIN rail segments and leaves more cabinet space available for other control components. The unit has an IP20 rating and is intended for protected electrical enclosures where exposure to dust and moisture is controlled. Quick-release contacts simplify conductor installation and removal during panel assembly or maintenance. Support for multiple conductor types provides flexibility when the terminal is connected to different sensors and field devices.
