Product Description:
The KL1704 is a four-channel I/O slice produced by Beckhoff for the KL Digital Input Modules series. It occupies one slot on a DIN-mounted Bus Terminal assembly and accepts line-voltage signals so that a control system can monitor external switches, sensors, or pushbuttons directly on the AC mains. In an automation cabinet, the module converts those field-level states into logic-level information that the host controller reads over the internal K-bus, allowing deterministic status acquisition without extra interposing relays.
The channels tolerate a nominal supply of 120/230 VAC, which lets the terminal interface with single-phase utility circuits commonly used in machinery wiring. Each slice provides four independent inputs, and the circuitry updates the controller after a debounce period equal to the specified 10 ms switching time, limiting contact chatter while maintaining responsiveness. Electrical safety is supported by a dielectric strength of 3750 VAC for one minute between the field side and logic side, providing electrical separation for the controller and connected equipment. Because every channel functions as a digital input, the terminal reports only on or off states, making it suitable for limit sensors, selector switches, and contactors that do not require analog resolution. The front end accommodates resistive or capacitive input behavior, so both mechanical contacts and compatible electronic sourcing devices can be connected without incorrect state detection.
Field wiring is landed on spring clamps that use 2-wire connection technology, minimizing space while keeping installation straightforward. Internally, the terminal maintains controller-side isolation up to 500 V along the K-bus, helping prevent ground loops when multiple slices share backplane power. The housing meets an IP20 protection rating, keeping live parts protected against accidental finger contact when the module is installed in a suitable cabinet. During cyclic scans, the terminal delivers a process image width of 4 input bits, with one bit assigned to each channel. LED status indicators correspond directly to the input states, allowing each active signal to be identified at the terminal. The housing supports any installation position without derating, providing flexibility when the Bus Terminal assembly is arranged on a DIN rail.
