Product Description:
The KL1702 is a digital AC input terminal produced by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. As a modular slice, it plugs into the Bus Terminal system and forwards two discrete voltage signals from field devices to the higher-level controller. The terminal detects 120 VAC or 230 VAC status changes from devices such as limit switches or auxiliary contacts. It then places those states in the controller’s process image for deterministic logic execution in industrial automation systems.
The module accepts a nominal supply of 120 VAC or 230 VAC, so it can be wired directly to standard single-phase mains power without a step-down transformer. It provides 2 separate input channels, each drawing only 6 mA to minimize loading on upstream sensor contacts. An internal RC network adds a 10 ms input filter that suppresses contact bounce and supports consistent edge detection. Communication with the coupler consumes only 3 mA on the K-bus, keeping backplane current low in large installations. The terminal contributes a 2-bit process image, allowing the PLC to read the state of each channel during every scan. Signals below 40 V are interpreted as a logical “0,” while levels above 79 V are interpreted as a logical “1,” providing a wide margin against electrical noise.
The terminal has an installed width of 12 mm and overall dimensions of 15 mm × 100 mm × 70 mm, allowing high-density mounting on a DIN rail. Field wiring uses 4-wire connection technology, which brings both the hot conductor and neutral to each channel so field devices can be connected through the terminal. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, making it touch-safe while requiring installation inside a suitable enclosure. Its narrow housing conserves rail space in control cabinets that contain multiple terminals. The direct AC inputs also reduce the need for separate interposing components when compatible field signals are connected.
