Product Description:
The KL1501-1002 is an incremental counter module produced by Beckhoff in the KL Analog Input Modules series. It is intended for DIN-rail assemblies where fast pulse counting is needed to supervise position, length, or speed signals from sensors in automated machinery. By converting incoming TTL-level pulses into digital data for EtherCAT or Bus Terminal networks, the module bridges field devices and a PLC, allowing high-resolution measurement without external counter hardware.
The module is housed in a IP20 enclosure that protects internal electronics in control cabinets and operates from a 24 VDC load supply shared with neighboring terminals. Logic circuitry draws only 50 mA from the K-bus, so large node arrays do not overload the backplane. It accepts pulse trains up to 100 kHz; this bandwidth supports encoders with fine line counts or high conveyor speeds. Reliable detection of each rising edge is ensured because the minimum pulse width is just 1 µs, and the counting input sinks a defined 5 mA that matches the drive capability of standard proximity switches. The counter reacts exclusively to the rising edge, preventing double counts caused by bounce on the falling edge.
Each channel can energize downstream loads up to 0.5 A, so the terminal can also drive small indicator lamps or relays directly. Inside the process image, the terminal occupies 40 I/O bits, allowing simultaneous transfer of count value, status, and control flags. Signal levels comply with EN 61131-2 Type 1, making the input compatible with sourcing sensors found in most 24 V plants. Installation uses a 35 mm mounting rail, and two additional transistor outputs are available for preset or limit functions. The single up/down counting channel is addressed through a five-byte input and five-byte output structure, so mapping remains constant across different PLC platforms.
