Product Description:
The KL1501-1001 module is produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the Bus Terminal product range. In a Bus Terminal system, this compact slice functions as a single-channel up/down counter with digital outputs, providing real-time count data to the controller. By reading fast signal transitions and forwarding the count into the process image, it helps PLCs synchronize monitored movement or flow with subsequent actuator commands. The module is suitable for packaging equipment, material-handling systems, and general automation tasks that rely on accurate pulse counting.
The terminal accepts one incremental signal through an up/down counter input. It evaluates the rising edge of each incoming pulse and can track events at frequencies up to 100 kHz, allowing it to work with high-speed encoders or proximity sensors. Internal state information is mapped through an 8-bit control and status channel. Two transistor stages provide 2 independently addressable digital outputs for applications that require an immediate response to counter events. The field-side electronics operate at a rated load voltage of 24 V DC, supplied through the terminal system. A feature register with the code 0x0100 allows the control software to recognize the available functions. The electrical input complies with EN 61131-2 Type 1, supporting compatibility with standard sourcing sensors used in industrial control systems.
The housing snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and can be installed in any mounting orientation, providing flexibility within compact control cabinets. Four signal LEDs offer local diagnostic information, allowing operating states to be viewed directly at the terminal. The process image allocates 40 I/O bits for communication with the controller, while a separate 32-bit user data field accommodates extended parameter data. The terminal exchanges five input bytes and five output bytes with the bus coupler. Its enclosure provides IP20 protection against contact with hazardous internal parts and solid objects larger than the applicable limit. The surrounding cabinet must provide suitable protection from moisture, dust, and other conditions not covered by the terminal enclosure.
