Product Description:
The KL1501-0011 is an I/O module produced by Beckhoff as part of the KL Analog Input Modules series. Mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail, the terminal receives fast incremental signals from encoders or sensors and forwards them to the controller, allowing deterministic counting and position evaluation inside distributed automation panels. Beckhoff combines the module with its K-bus backplane so that system designers can expand channel density without changing the field wiring topology.
It operates from a control supply of 24 VDC, and each input draws only 5 mA because the circuitry complies with the EN 61131-2 Type 1 input specification. Signal data are transferred to the PLC as 32 bit process words while the status channel occupies an 8-bit control field; in total, the standard mapping is 5 bytes in and 5 bytes out on the bus. The single up/down counter channel supports incremental sensors thanks to the 1 x up/down connection technology, and it can accept edge sequences up to 100 kHz without loss. The terminal snaps onto the existing rail profile, maintaining the 35 mm module width so adjacent components are not repositioned.
For drive-related tasks, the terminal offers 2 additional transistor outputs rated at 0.5 A each, enabling direct control of small actuators that depend on the captured count value. When the inputs are used in step-direction mode, the permissible up/down switch rate reaches 2 kHz, matching typical servo index times. Communication with upstream terminals over the K-bus raises the backplane demand to 50 mA, a figure that must be included when calculating the power budget of the I/O island. With an IP20 protection class, the module is intended for closed control cabinets where environmental contaminants are limited.
