Product Description:
The KL1501 terminal is manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the KL Analog Input Modules series. It inserts into a standard Bus Terminal stack and serves as a single-channel up/down counter that transfers real-time position or event totals to the controller. The terminal supports applications such as material length tracking and machine cycle counting in automated production lines. Its compact modular format allows the counter channel to be positioned alongside other Bus Terminals that handle separate machine signals.
An aligned width of 12 mm keeps the terminal compact within the Bus Terminal stack. The counter accepts input signals up to 100 kHz, so high-frequency encoders can be monitored without missing edges. Internal arithmetic is handled by a 32-bit register, allowing more than four billion counts before rollover. Field wiring is powered by a rated load voltage of 24 V DC, which is compatible with common control cabinet supplies. The plastic housing carries a protection rating of IP20, so installation within an enclosed panel is required to protect the terminal from contaminants and moisture. Count detection occurs on the rising edge of the input signal. Two additional outputs are available for user-defined signaling, allowing the controller to operate related functions through the same terminal.
The module fastens to a 35 mm mounting rail and may be installed in any orientation without affecting operation. Within the PLC process image, it occupies 40 I/O bits that carry the counter value and status data. The input circuitry follows the EN 61131-2 Type 1 standard, providing consistent current thresholds for logical states. The terminal has load-only power contacts, which carry actuator power but do not supply its internal electronics. Software selects the counting direction, allowing the channel to operate as either an upward or downward counter according to the control program. No manual address setting is required because the terminal’s position in the stack determines its process mapping. This automatic mapping reduces configuration steps during cabinet assembly and prevents errors associated with physical address switches.
