Product Description:
The KL1408 from Beckhoff is a Bus Terminal that lets automation systems use 8 channels of digital input. The bus terminal is designed to receive binary 24 V DC control signals and transmit them to higher-level automation devices in a manner that does not impact the electrical connection. This enables the expansion of I/O in a modular and efficient manner.
The KL1408 bus terminal works with a nominal voltage of 24 V DC and a range of -15% to +20%. It has a 1-wire connection system that makes wiring easier. Each of the eight input channels has a 3-ms input filter that stops signal bounce from mechanical switches. The terminal is approved by EN 61131-2, type 1/3, and offers 500 V of electrical isolation between the K-bus and field potential. On the K-bus, the current use is about 5 mA, while the power contact current use is 2 mA plus load. The bus terminal has a double slot and key link that lets it be mounted next to each other. It is also made to be installed on a 35 mm DIN rail that meets EN 60715 standards and has a locking mechanism. The power contacts on the terminal can handle up to 10 A of current, and the wire needs a stripping length of 8–10 mm. The process image has 8 inputs, which is the same number of channels as its bit width. It can work without an address or setup settings.
The KL1408 bus terminal is only 12 mm wide, 100 mm tall, and 68 mm deep, which makes it small enough for placement on I/O panels with a lot of connections. The device has signal LEDs on each channel to make it easy to see what the signal state is. It weighs about 55 grams. The bus terminal works with solid, stranded, and ferrule wire, so it can handle different conductor cross-sections.
Frequently Asked Questions about KL1408:
Q: Does KL1408 provide electrical isolation for safety?
A: The bus terminal offers 500 V electrical isolation between K-bus and field potential. This enhances safety and signal integrity in automation systems.
Q: 3. Why does KL1408 use 1-wire connection technology?
A: The uses 1-wire connection technology that simplifies wiring. This reduces installation time and minimizes wiring errors in control panels.
Q: 4. How does KL1408 indicate input status?
A: The bus terminal is equipped with signal LEDs for each channel. These LEDs provide clear visual feedback on the signal state of each input.
Q: 5. Do KL1408 power contacts support high current loads?
A: The bus terminal power contacts support a maximum current load of 10 A. This allows reliable operation when connected to devices with higher current requirements.
Q: 6. Why does KL1408 have no address or configuration setting?
A: The bus terminal requires no address or configuration settings that simplifies integration. This enables straightforward installation and commissioning in automation projects.
