The KL1212 is an analog input module produced by Beckhoff within the KL Analog Input Modules series. It is installed in I/O stations to acquire low-level field signals and forward them to a controller for deterministic processing. By occupying one slot in a modular bus terminal assembly, the unit transfers sensor data onto the terminal bus while sharing power contacts with adjacent terminals. This arrangement supports compact signal collection in industrial automation racks and keeps the I/O structure easy to integrate with other Beckhoff terminals.
The module is only 12 mm wide, 68 mm deep, and 100 mm high, so multiple units can be lined up without exceeding enclosure space limits. It is energized from a nominal field supply of 24 V DC, which matches standard control-cabinet power distribution. Snap-in claws attach the housing to a 35 mm DIN rail for secure mounting inside the cabinet. Terminals follow 3-wire connection technology, assigning separate sensing and supply lines for each channel to reduce measurement error. The polycarbonate housing resists typical cabinet vibration, and the installation position is variable for flexible orientation. Two input points are provided for small sensor groups or redundant measurements.
The housing has an IP20 protection rating, making it suitable for use inside closed panels. The input class is EN 61131-2, Type 1, so PLCs can recognize the signal level correctly. Common 24-volt distribution can be looped through the internal power contact that carries up to 10 A, reducing external wiring. For transducer excitation, the terminal can source up to 0.5 A of sensor supply current to support loop-powered devices. The process image presented to the controller includes four status bits and two diagnostic output bits, allowing the control system to monitor channel condition and reported states during operation.
