The KL1184 is a four-channel analog input module produced by Beckhoff and included in the KL Analog Input Modules series. Designed for distributed I/O stations, the module converts field-level signals into a format that a higher-level PLC can process through the proprietary K-bus. By capturing low-level sensor currents and forwarding digitized values, it allows machine builders to collect process data without routing individual cables back to the central control cabinet, streamlining wiring and enabling decentralized automation.
Each channel accepts sensors using 2-/3-wire connection technology and is energized from the backplane at 24 V DC nominal. The analog side draws only 5 mA per input, while the internal K-bus requires 8 mA for communication and diagnostics. A front-end filter of 3 ms attenuates noise so slowly varying process signals reach the controller with minimal ripple. The inputs are ground-referenced through the specified switching type, and the power feed-through on the supply contacts can carry up to 10 A, allowing downstream terminals to share the same rail. Mechanical size stays compact at 12 mm x 100 mm x 68 mm, and the enclosure carries an IP20 rating that limits use to protected cabinets.
Functionally, the terminal offers 4 differential current channels, and the firmware places one status bit per channel in the 32-bit process image, keeping data alignment predictable during scan cycles.
