Product Description:

The ES5101 terminal is designed by Beckhoff to provide an interface for the connection of incremental encoders. It facilitates the direct connection of encoders with single-ended or differential signals, ensuring accurate capture of position and speed data within EtherCAT systems. This results in accurate, real-time motion control in applications such as conveyor systems where position feedback and synchronization are key for system efficiency. The terminal features a single channel that allows it to connect a single incremental encoder at a time. This dedicated channel ensures focused and uninterrupted signal acquisition from one encoder, enhancing measurement accuracy and reducing the risk of signal interference.

The ES5101 provides an encoder operating voltage of 5 V DC with a maximum current of 0.5 A. This built-in power supply allows the terminal to directly power the connected incremental encoder without requiring an additional source of power. The 5 V DC level is compatible with most standard encoders, ensuring easy integration into various automation settings. For enhanced usability, the terminal comes with a 16/32-bit switchable counter that makes it possible for users to customize the resolution of the count to meet specific application needs. This allows the terminal to adapt to both standard and high-resolution tasks as needed.

This terminal comes with a host of special features to enhance its functionality in diverse setups. It features a micro increments feature that enables fine-grained position tracking for highly detailed motion control. It also offers timestamping of edges, providing an accurate record of the timing of encoder signal transitions. Its wire breakage detection helps to monitor and alert in case of signal interruption, ensuring reliable and continuous operation. The terminal weighs just 100 g, making the installation and integration process seamless.
