Product Description:
The ES4012 terminal is an analog I/O device manufactured by Beckhoff within the ES EtherCAT Terminals series. It is intended to deliver current outputs to field actuators while exchanging process data over the EtherCAT backplane, allowing precise analog control in distributed automation panels. By combining the EtherCAT communication controller with signal conditioning in a narrow module, the unit helps integrate analog functions directly on a DIN rail without remote marshalling hardware. Its layout is suited to control cabinets where analog channels need to sit beside digital terminals in the same terminal stack.
The terminal offers two 16-bit analog output channels with 12-bit resolution and a linear 0–20 mA output signal. Each channel is refreshed by a multiplex sampling routine, and the outputs share a single-ended ground reference to simplify shielding. Operating power is supplied through the EtherCAT power contacts at 24 V DC, and the internal circuitry is protected for installation areas rated to IP20. The pluggable wiring level simplifies connection, and the module provides dedicated terminal points for the analog load while field data are exchanged through the EtherCAT interface. This arrangement supports direct connection to field devices that require controlled current signals rather than voltage outputs.
The enclosure measures 12 × 100 × 68 mm and is molded from polycarbonate so it fits closely beside other ES modules. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail, and the integrated power blade can carry up to 10 A for group-supplied terminals positioned downstream. When connected to field devices, each current channel remains accurate within less than 0.1%, provided the load impedance stays below 500 Ω. The slim housing supports dense side-by-side mounting, which helps conserve rail space in compact cabinets.
