Product Description:

The ES3204 EtherCAT Terminal module is developed by Beckhoff. It is designed to handle four RTD sensor inputs with high accuracy and stable performance. The terminal supports a wide range of sensor types including Pt100, Pt200, Pt500, Pt1000, Ni100, Ni120, Ni1000 and KTY sensors and as well as resistance measurements from 10 ohms to 1/4 kilohm.

The ES3204 EtherCAT Terminalhas an input filter with a typical limit frequency of 1 kHz and supports configurable conversion times ranging from 2 to 800 milliseconds. The conversion time is approximately 85 milliseconds. The measuring current remains below 0.5 mA and is dependent on the load. Power is supplied via the E-bus and the module typically consumes 190 mA from the E-bus. It does not utilize power contacts which simplifies the power configuration. Electrical isolation of 500 V is provided between the E-bus and signal voltage for enhanced safety. Each channel offers a resolution of 0.1°C per digit with a typical measurement uncertainty of less than ±0.5°C when using Pt sensors. This terminal does not support distributed clocks but offers integrated digital filtering and limit value monitoring as special features. The ES3204 is housed in a polycarbonate casing with dimensions of 12 mm (W) x 100 mm (H) x 68 mm (D). It supports DIN rail mounting according to EN 60715 and allows side-by-side installation with a double slot and key connection.

The ES3204 EtherCAT Terminalwiring is achieved through a screwdriver-actuated spring terminal system. It also supports pluggable wiring for ES terminals and its meets IP20 protection standards. The maximum current load is rated at 10 A. The connection method is based on a 2-wire system which provides simplified wiring in compact installations.

Frequently Asked Questions about ES3204:

Q: Why is digital filtering integrated in the ES3204 module?

A: Digital filtering helps eliminate high-frequency noise and ensures signal stability, especially when used with long sensor cables or in noisy industrial environments.

Q: What role does the 2-wire connection method play in ES3204 installations?

A: The 2-wire system simplifies wiring by reducing the number of conductors per channel, aiding compact installations without compromising measurement accuracy.

Q: How does the 500 V electrical isolation in ES3204 improve safety?

A: It protects the control system by isolating sensor inputs from the E-bus, preventing voltage surges or faults from affecting core automation equipment.

Q: Why is the typical conversion time set at 85 milliseconds in ES3204?

A: This balance allows timely updates while maintaining high accuracy and stability, which is ideal for temperature monitoring in dynamic processes.

Q: What is the significance of the 1 kHz input filter in the ES3204 EtherCAT Terminal?

A: The 1 kHz filter suppresses signal noise while preserving real-time characteristics, useful in fast-response thermal applications.
