Product Description:
The ES3201 EtherCAT Terminal is the creation of Beckhoff and it comes under the series of ES EtherCAT Terminals. It delivers stable and accurate analog single handling which makes it ideal for industrial automation applications where dependable data acquisition is essential.
The ES3201EtherCAT terminal measurement current is less than 0.5 m amperes which helps minimize self heating of the sensor and ensures more accurate temperature readings. The terminal has a physical weight of 60 g which makes it easily fit in compact places. The smallest change in temperature the terminal can detect and display is 0.1 °C per digit which is precise enough for most industrial and laboratory applications. The module has an operational temperature range of -200…+850 °C for PT sensors and -60…+250 °C for Ni sensors which makes it suitable for extreme industrial environments, while the narrower range for Ni sensors fits more moderate use cases. It is capable of handling one temperature sensor at a time. From the EtherCAT system power supply the terminal draws 190 m ampere current. The frequency response of the input signal filter is 1 kHz which helps remove high frequency noise from the sensor signal.
The ES3201EtherCAT terminal supports different wiring methods used by RTDs (resistance temperature detectors), but the 4 wire is more accurate as it compensates for lead resistance while the 2 wire is simpler but less accurate. It has a wide range of supported resistive temperature sensors which allows it to be used in diverse applications and systems. The maximum deviation from the actual temperature due to the terminal’s internal electronics should be less than ±0.5 °C for PT sensors. The terminal processes sensor input quickly into a temperature value within 24 ms which gives faster updates.
Frequently Asked Questions about ES3201:
Q: How does the input filter limit frequency affect temperature signal accuracy?
A: The 1 kHz input filter reduces high-frequency noise, improving temperature measurement stability. This ensures cleaner data for control systems and reduces fluctuations.
Q: Why is the measuring current kept below 0.5 mA in ES3201?
A: The low measuring current minimizes self-heating of the sensor. This enhances accuracy, especially in sensitive or long-duration temperature monitoring applications.
Q: How does the digital filter in ES3201 enhance signal processing?
A: The integrated digital filter smooths out noise from sensor signals. This results in more stable and reliable temperature readings in noisy environments.
Q: What is the significance of having CE, UL, and Ex approvals in ES3201 EtherCAT Terminal?
A: These certifications ensure compliance with safety and performance standards. It allows ES3201 to be used in critical and hazardous industrial environments confidently.
Q: How does the ES3201 EtherCAT Terminal handle temperature spikes or abrupt changes?
A: Its fast conversion time of 24 ms enables real-time response to temperature changes. This ensures timely corrective actions in automated systems.
