Product Description:
The ES2008 digital output terminal is produced by Beckhoff as part of the ES EtherCAT Terminals series. Designed for distributed automation, it provides eight individually switched channels that can be addressed through the EtherCAT fieldbus and installed alongside other I/O slices on a 35 mm DIN rail. By mapping each channel directly into the controller’s process image, it simplifies machine wiring and supports compact decentralized control cabinets. Because the channels operate independently, one terminal can switch several field devices with separate timing from a single narrow I/O slice. This layout suits conveyor sections, small handling units, and other machines that need multiple low-power outputs near the point of use.
It accepts a nominal supply of 24 V DC on the power contacts and delivers up to 0.5 A per channel, which is suitable for small solenoids, indicator lamps, and similar loads. The terminal presents eight outputs, shown in the controller as a process image width of 8 bits, so each channel can be assigned directly in PLC logic. Internally, the logic circuitry draws only 110 mA from the E-bus, and each high-side transistor closes in 60 µs, allowing fast output response while keeping backplane loading low. Output wiring uses a 1-wire connection method, and the pluggable wiring level can be removed without disturbing the fixed terminal body. Reverse-voltage protection is included to help guard the electronics if the supply polarity is connected incorrectly.
Power distribution through the feed-through contacts supports up to 10 A, which allows the supply trunk to pass through the module without separate distribution blocks. The housing measures 12 x 100 x 68 mm and carries an IP20 rating for use inside protected control enclosures. Each channel releases in 300 µs, which helps reduce residual energy when inductive loads are switched off. The polycarbonate housing provides electrical insulation, and the compact form helps the terminal fit dense EtherCAT assemblies where cabinet space is limited. Detachable wiring blocks keep connected conductors grouped together, which makes changes to a terminal position easier without disturbing adjacent slices.
