Product Description:
The ER1018-0001 is an I/O extension manufactured by Beckhoff within the ER EtherCAT Box Modules series. Designed for machine-mounted installation, the device brings distributed input and output points directly onto moving or exposed sections of equipment, reducing the amount of wiring routed back to the control cabinet. It communicates over an EtherCAT network so a central controller can trigger actuators and read sensor states through a single real-time fieldbus line.
The module’s electrical backbone operates from 24 VDC with a tolerance of -15% to +20%, so typical plant power rails can be used without adjustment. Up to 4 A of control current can be supplied through the internal terminals, providing capacity for multiple sensor loads or small solenoids wired locally. System communication uses EtherCAT, and the integrated two-port switch connects through two M8, four-pin green sockets that preserve shielding and polarity in electrically noisy areas. The housing measures only 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, allowing the device to fit along machine uprights or inside cable trays where installation space is limited. Mechanical durability comes from the die-cast zinc enclosure, which resists shock, oil splashes, and weld spatter commonly encountered on processing lines.
A separate peripheral power path supplies connected actuators and helps keep field wiring organized. The module supports any installation orientation, so it functions identically whether its markings face upward, downward, or sideways. Final attachment to the machine frame is made with two M3 screws, and the M8 couplers are tightened to 0.4 Nm to maintain a secure seal. Continuous operation is permitted from -25 to +60 °C, while storage is permitted from -40 to +85 °C to protect the device while it is not in service. Despite its metal casing, the module weighs only 165 g, reducing the load placed on robotic dress packs and moving carriages.
