Product Description:
The EPI2338-0001 is a digital input module produced by Beckhoff for the EP Digital Input Modules series. In an automation cell it translates switching signals from sensors into data that a controller can process, allowing decentralized wiring and fast status acquisition. A single module incorporates eight input points and an IO-Link port so that both conventional and smart sensors can use the same hardware, reducing panel space and simplifying field installation. Because power and signals share the same connectors, installation time is also shortened while maintaining separation between the control logic and the auxiliary 24 V supply.
Eight inputs are available through 8 configurable I/O channels, each wired on 8 × M8 connectors and classified as Type 3 per EN 61131-2 for compatibility with PNP sensors. The IO-Link master connection runs at 230.4 kbaud on COM 3 and follows IO-Link V1.1 Class B, presented on a 5-pin A-coded M12 plug. Default signal conditioning applies a 3 ms input filter to suppress contact bounce, and the pulse stretcher is preset to 0 ms pulse extension, so pulses are passed without artificial lengthening. For flexible machine layouts the module supports cable runs up to 30 m cable reach, aided by galvanic isolation between L+ and P24 to limit ground loops.
The P24 rail furnishes the outputs with 0.5 A per channel, while the aggregate load must remain below 4 A aggregate current limit. Both the logical inputs and the dedicated sensor power are derived from a 24 VDC nominal supply, and an internal electronic fuse intervenes at the 1.5 A short-circuit threshold. The compact 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm housing allows side-by-side installation with other field modules, and the module’s specification covers the full current path from individual channels to the total sum so planners can size power feeds accurately.
