The EP9214-0023 is a power distribution extension manufactured by Beckhoff for the EP Digital Input Modules series. The module conditions and switches 24 V auxiliary voltages for downstream sensors and actuators, allowing separate load groups to be monitored individually. Mounted directly on equipment, it serves industrial automation architectures that rely on distributed input islands, reducing cabinet space and simplifying cable routing through sealed field housings. The design is suited to machine sections where local power branching is needed near field devices rather than at a central cabinet terminal block.

Electrical integration is handled through the 2 × M8 socket, 4-pin, A-coded, shielded bus interface, which carries EtherCAT communication to the module. Primary supply enters as 24 VDC nominal voltage on separate Us and Up rails, and a 7 A (FF) electronic fuse in each rail trips quickly during overcurrent to protect branch wiring. The module provides four output channels, and each channel can source 4 A per M8, per Us and Up for moderate-load actuators. The molded PA6 polyamide housing protects these circuits in an enclosure rated IP65, IP66, IP67, allowing installation on machine frames without an additional cabinet and helping the unit withstand exposed mounting conditions.

Upstream power is delivered through the 1 × 7/8-inch plug, 5-pin, 16-UN connector, and a matching 7/8-inch socket on the opposite side supports daisy-chain layouts. At an ambient temperature of 40 °C, the combined Us and Up rails may carry 16 A, and cable assemblies up to 30 m help maintain stable voltage delivery across longer machine sections. A potential-free normally open signaling contact reports fuse status, and the internal logic supports remote fault resetting after a trip. This arrangement keeps protected load distribution close to the connected devices while preserving clear status reporting through the control system.
