Product Description:
The EP7402-0057 is a compact field-mountable module manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EP Digital Input Modules series. Designed for decentralized machine architectures, it combines dual motor outputs and sensor inputs so an EtherCAT network can command actuators directly on the machine frame. By driving small DC motors and collecting digital feedback at the point of use, the unit reduces cabinet wiring and streamlines motion control tasks in industrial automation lines.
The module provides a continuous phase current of 3.5 A(rms) per motor channel, while short acceleration bursts can reach 12.0 A(rms) without derating. A current controller switching at 32 kHz regulates these limits, and the fast loop supports precise torque regulation with minimal ripple. Pulse-width modulation is generated at 16 kHz, balancing switching losses with acoustic performance. The module supports 8 digital I/O points for auxiliary sensors, and all data moves over the real-time EtherCAT protocol. Two motor channels share the same power rail and connect through M8, 5-pin, B-coded sockets, while the upstream and downstream bus interface uses twin B23 ENP bayonet connectors to maintain shielding in noisy environments.
The power stage is supplied by a nominal 24 V DC bus, and an internal 10 µs input filter suppresses line transients before they reach the logic level. Rotor fields can be commutated up to 599 Hz, giving adequate speed headroom for high-speed conveyors or compact spindles. Motor wiring is kept short through dedicated outlets, and topology changes are possible through the A-coded EtherCAT junction on the housing. The enclosure measures 60 mm x 174 mm x 36.5 mm, so it can mount alongside other IP-rated blocks on a machine rail, and it adds only 750 g to the moving structure, easing dynamic load calculations.
