The EP7041-3102 is a distributed I/O and motion module manufactured by Beckhoff within the EP Digital Input Modules series. It combines two fast sensor inputs with a stepper motor output stage so localized motion and feedback tasks can be handled close to the machine. The device collects field signals, controls brake energizing, and forwards status data to the master controller. This arrangement helps reduce wiring length between the central controller, nearby sensors, and the connected stepper axis in compact automation systems.
The module offers two digital input channels, and each input draws 5 mA with a 1 µs filter that suppresses noise at high switching frequencies. Process data and power enter through 2 x M8 sockets, 4-pin, A-coded, shielded, and the internal electronics require only 120 mA of supply current, which supports extended daisy-chain layouts. When an incremental encoder is supplied with 5 V DC, the counting hardware can register up to 400,000 increments/s, allowing mid-range speed feedback without missed pulses. For holding brakes, the built-in driver supplies 0.5 A at 24 V DC, so the axis can remain locked while the machine is idle or in a safe-torque-off state.
The housing measures 30 mm x 126 mm x 26.5 mm, which helps the module fit into shallow cabinets and IP-rated cable trays. Motor phases are connected through an M12 plug, and the power stage can use up to 48 V DC, giving the driver enough voltage headroom for dynamic acceleration. Short-duty peaks can reach 5.0 A at 50 °C, while continuous current remains at 3.5 A to limit copper heating during sustained operation. Fine positioning is supported by 256-fold microstepping, which reduces torque ripple and promotes smoother motion for feed screws, index tables, and pick-and-place grippers operating on the same distributed control network.
