The EP7041-3002 digital input module is manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EP Digital Input Modules series. It supports 2-phase stepper motors, either unipolar or bipolar, with a nominal phase current of 3.5 Amps and a peak phase current of 5.0 Amps at 50 degrees Celsius. Product Description:
The EP7041-3002 is a compact Beckhoff EtherCAT Box module for controlling 2-phase stepper motors in either unipolar or bipolar wiring. It combines motor power electronics with onboard digital inputs so motion functions and local status signals can be handled close to the machine. This arrangement is suited to distributed automation lines where the motor interface, digital sensing, and EtherCAT communication need to remain near the mechanical load without using extra control-cabinet space.
The module can source brake current up to 0.5 A through a dedicated 24 VDC output, allowing a connected motor brake to hold position after a controlled stop. EtherCAT communication and feed-through supply are routed through a shielded 2 x M8 socket, 4-pin, A-coded, shielded bus interface, which helps reduce signal interference in field-mounted installations. The unit has 2 discrete inputs, and each input uses a 1 µs filter so fast edge changes can be detected reliably. All components fit within a housing size of 30 x 126 x 26.5 mm, which supports mounting on robots, linear axes, or mobile carriers where space is limited.
Closed-loop positioning is supported by an incremental encoder channel that accepts rates up to 400,000 increments/s, and the drive supports motion resolution of up to 256 microsteps. The power stage can use motor supply voltages up to 48 VDC and delivers a nominal phase current of 3.5 A, with short-term peaks of 5.0 A at 50 °C for acceleration. A single M12 socket carries the motor phases, and an additional 24 V sensor supply supports the encoder connection.
