Product Description:
The EP7041-0002 is a Beckhoff module in the EP Digital Input Modules series that combines decentralized stepper motor drive functions with field-connected digital inputs on an EtherCAT network. The unit is intended to mount directly on machinery, reducing panel wiring while providing precise motion control and signal acquisition for conveyors, pick-and-place stations, and small indexing tables. Its compact form factor supports installation in tight mechanical spaces, and the housing layout is suitable for distributed machine I/O close to the axis being controlled.
The module provides 2 optically isolated inputs, and each input is filtered to 1 µs to suppress bounce. A brake output can source 0.5 A for holding or safety clamps. Two internal H-bridge drivers accept up to 48 V DC from the M12 motor socket and deliver a peak phase current of 5.0 A at 50 °C, while separate current regulators keep sinusoidal excitation stable across the operating range. Micro-positioning is possible with up to 64 microsteps, and the incremental encoder channel handles feedback at up to 400,000 increments per second from the 24 VDC sensor supply. Mechanical dimensions of 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm allow mounting beside other I/O boxes, and network traffic passes through two shielded, A-coded, 4-pin M8 EtherCAT connectors.
At the continuous rating of 3.5 A per phase, the EP7041-0002 can drive motion sequences at up to 32,000 full steps per second without thermal derating during extended operation. The sealed zinc die-cast housing meets IP65/IP66/IP67 protection levels, permitting on-machine installation where dust, cutting fluid, or washdown water may be present. The encoder power supply is fused internally, and the pass-through EtherCAT topology allows straightforward network routing. Shielded interfaces also help maintain signal integrity across longer cable runs in larger production cells.
