Product Description:
The EP6228-3132 digital input module is produced by Beckhoff as part of the EP Digital Input Modules series. It is intended for decentralized installation on machinery, where it captures binary sensor states and transmits them over the fieldbus without a control cabinet. By combining an IP-rated enclosure with standard sensor wiring, the unit extends discrete signal acquisition to moving or exposed areas of a plant and serves as a bridge between on-machine devices and the main EtherCAT network.
The module connects to the bus through 2 x M8 sockets. This shielded, A-coded interface carries both communication and auxiliary power on compact four-pin connectors. Each C/Q pin can source up to 200 mA for actuator feedback, while individual sensor channels draw only 3 mA, so proximity switches and light curtains do not overload the supply. A hardware debounce of 10 µs is applied to every edge, suppressing contact chatter before the data reaches the controller. There are 4 digital inputs available, enabling direct monitoring of stop buttons, limit switches, or photo-eyes. The internal electronics require 130 mA from the backplane, and the nominal supply is 24 V DC so the device fits common control-voltage standards.
The housing measures 60 x 150 x 26.5 mm and is molded from PA6, a polyamide that withstands oils and vibration on factory equipment. Eight IO-Link sockets operate at up to 4.8/38.4/230.4 kbaud; four are Class A for sensor heads and four are Class B for devices that need auxiliary power. Version V1.1 protocol support allows indexed parameter storage and event handling. L+ lines can deliver 24 V DC at 1.4 A per port, and an additional P24 pair supplies 4.0 A to higher-power loads. The enclosure satisfies IP65/IP66/IP67, protecting the electronics against dust ingress and high-pressure water during washdown procedures.
