Product Description:
The EP6228-3032 is a block-style EtherCAT I/O module produced by Beckhoff as part of the EP Digital Input Modules series. It functions as a field device that forwards discrete sensor states to a controller while powering connected sensors through integrated connectors. Because the unit installs directly on machinery without a control cabinet, it simplifies decentralized signal collection in automated production lines. This layout keeps field wiring close to the machine and reduces the need for long home-run sensor cables.
It exchanges process data over 2 x M8 socket, 4-pin, A-coded, shielded links that also carry auxiliary voltage for the internal electronics. These electronics operate from a 24 V DC nominal supply provided through the 7/8-inch, five-pin power feed. No dedicated input filter is applied to the C/Q line, so switching delays depend solely on the connected sensor. Every port follows V1.1 of the IO-Link standard, and the block provides 8 Class B master channels that can each source up to 200 mA on the C/Q conductor. For overload protection, the aggregate current drawn from the P24 rail is capped at 16 A at 40 °C. Separate five-pin M12 sockets route sensor signals and maintain shielding continuity along the permitted cable run, which helps preserve stable communication in moving or electrically noisy equipment.
Physical space is set by an enclosure measuring 60 x 150 x 26.5 mm, allowing the device to fit shallow cable trays and robot arms. The housing is molded from PA6 polyamide, providing impact resistance and chemical stability for wash-down or welding environments. Field cables may reach 20 m without degrading IO-Link timing when the specified shielding is used. When actuators on a channel require more energy, the module can source 1.4 A/port on the L+ pin while still observing the 4.0 A limit for each port pair. Front-side status LEDs report short circuit, undervoltage, and communication errors, so operating conditions can be checked directly at the module.
