Product Description:
The EP6228-0022 is a compact digital input/output device manufactured by Beckhoff and assigned to the EP Digital Input Modules series. Designed for machine builders who embed I/O at the field level, it acts as a remote block that links sensors or actuators to an EtherCAT network while providing eight IO-Link channels. By converting discrete field signals into protocol-ready data, the unit streamlines decentralized installation and shortens wiring runs in automated production lines.
Electrical integration centers on a nominal supply of 24 V DC that is routed through an M8 power connector, and the housing footprint of 60 × 126 × 26.5 mm allows mounting on tight machine frames. Each IO-Link port can deliver up to 1.4 A, with an aggregate budget of 4.0 A total, while the C/Q pin offers a separate 200 mA source for sensor power. Dual M8 sockets handle the fieldbus wiring and forward telegrams at selectable speeds of 4.8 / 38.4 / 230.4 kbit/s. The module supports up to eight configurable digital input or output points, so a mixed assortment of proximity switches, valve coils, or status lamps can be driven directly. Communication with the host controller is based on the EtherCAT protocol, giving sub-millisecond update times without additional gateways.
Mechanical resilience is provided by the cast-metal enclosure that carries a protection rating of IP65 / IP66 / IP67, permitting direct installation on tooling or conveyor walls without a control cabinet. Reliable operation is specified from -25 to +60 °C, and storage limits extend down to -40 °C for cold-chain transport. Conformance to IO-Link release V1.1, Class A ensures that tool ID, process data, and parameter downloads are managed uniformly across the eight ports. Field cables may reach 20 m in length, and the shielded M8 bus interface maintains signal integrity over those runs.
