Product Description:
The EP6001-0002 is a compact machine-mounted I/O interface from Beckhoff that connects field devices to a controller over an EtherCAT network. Beckhoff places the electronics in a sealed polyamide housing so the unit can be mounted directly on the machine, which helps reduce control-cabinet wiring and shortens cable runs. As a communication module, it conditions signals and provides isolation so the control system receives stable data from connected equipment.
The housing has a protection rating of IP65/IP66/IP67, which means it is dust-tight and suitable for washdown exposure from water jets. Its physical size is limited to 30 mm x 126 mm x 26.5 mm, allowing installation in tight spaces beside other machine-mounted modules. The unit has 2 EtherCAT bus connections for line routing, and its internal processing applies a fixed delay of 10 µs to suppress very brief disturbances before a signal change is passed on. All serial communication runs in Full Duplex, so transmit and receive paths operate independently at the same time. Field wiring enters through two shielded M8 sockets for the bus and one M12 socket for auxiliary signals, while the molded PA6 body helps maintain cable strain relief under vibration.
Process data is transported through EtherCAT, giving the module deterministic update behavior and automatic address handling within the network. The interface can supply up to 0.5 A per channel to connected peripherals while maintaining a load voltage of 24 V DC. The onboard microcontroller includes a transmit cache of 128 bytes, which allows buffered data transfer when several values change in quick succession. One serial channel, selectable as RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485, shares the same M12 connector, and the module also provides 5 V DC at 1 A for low-power devices such as encoders or barcode scanners.
